Inspired by Hans Copers forms, Sussex Strata is a hand thrown form from layers of porcelain and wild sussex clay dug from the River Medway in Forest Row. it is unfiltered so the stones and natural inclusions from the riverbed remain. a moss green glaze is applied to the upper third revealing the raw strata of the layered clay beneath.
Athough perfectly straight when it entered the kiln the different shrinkage rates of the two clays together with the inclusions cause the form to shift during firing giving its distinctive organic profile.
